New public ward block and expanded theatre complex opens at Joondalup Health Campus

Jul 25, 2025

A multi-million dollar 106-bed public ward block and world-class public theatre complex expansion were officially opened at Joondalup Health Campus today by the Minister for Health; Mental Health the Hon. Meredith Hammat MLA, and the Minister for Health Infrastructure the Hon. John Carey MLA to care for more patients in Perth's fast-growing northern suburbs.

In celebration of this latest milestone in the $307.9 million expansion of JHC funded by the State and Australian Governments, Minister Hammat and Minister Carey unveiled an official opening plaque with Ramsay Health Care Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer Natalie Davis before touring some of our new facilities.

The public ward block includes 46 contemporary individual patient rooms across two new wards, with a further 60 beds to be fitted out by mid-2026, following an additional $24 million investment as part of the State Budget 2025-26.

The public theatre block has undergone a major transformation with one new public theatre and two new interventional catheter laboratories (cath labs), to replace an existing cath lab, doubling capacity for image guided cardiac and vascular procedures, such as angioplasty to unblock arteries, and implanting pacemakers.

The new cath labs are fitted with the latest technology, generating 3-D, real time images to support and expand the provision of best practice minimally invasive procedures.

The expansion includes more pre-surgery holding bays and post-anaesthesia care unit bed bays, improved facilities for staff and an expanded central sterilising services department to support additional theatre activity.

The Joondalup Health Campus expansion is a six-year project that includes $149.9 million funding by the State Government and $158 million funding by the Commonwealth Government.

The project has delivered new facilities across the site, including a 102-bed mental health unit, more emergency department beds, a new discharge lounge, additional parking and supporting facilities.

Two additional theatres for shared public and private use, funded by Ramsay Health Care, will open in the public theatre complex in September 2025.
