After Hours GP Service

JHC is trialling a new After-Hours General Practitioner (AHGP) service operating weeknights between 5pm and 10pm (excluding public holidays) as an integrated part of the JHC Emergency Department (ED). Patients requiring care must present to the JHC ED for assessment and triage before being streamed to the GP service, if deemed clinically appropriate.

The AHGP service is open to new patients from 6pm. 5pm- 6pm is reserved for patients identified at the time of their ED presentation as requiring follow up.

For routine and non-urgent GP care outside of the service’s operating hours, please visit any of the other after hours GP clinics in the local area.

If you require emergency treatment, please present to our Emergency Department as usual.

What we offer

The AHGP service provides safe, high quality and timely care treating conditions requiring the attention of a GP. The service can deal with a range of issues and commonly provides treatment for:

  • infections
  • bites and stings
  • minor cuts, wounds and fractures
  • muscle and joint injuries
  • gastrointestinal problems (such as stomach aches, vomiting and diarrhoea)
  • skin complaints.

It also provides referrals for non-urgent radiology and pathology.

The AHGP service also treats workers’ compensation injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries and provide urgent prescriptions and medical certificates, if appropriate.

The AHGP service is intended to treat a single, urgent medical issue. Your usual treating GP is best placed to meet routine and non-urgent GP needs.

What you need to know

The service does not take appointments and while every effort is made to see patients in order of arrival, there are times when the clinical needs of some patients means they will be prioritised over other patients.

In the event that your condition deteriorates, your care will be escalated through the ED.

The follow-up service is by referral only, not by self-presentation.

If you have a regular GP, information about your consultation and copies of any test results can be sent to them on your request.

Attending our clinic is not an alternative to seeing your regular GP, who is best placed to deal with your ongoing health needs.

If you don’t have a regular GP, use the Service Finder at https://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/Service-search

If your condition deteriorates care will continue within the ED.

What we don’t offer

GPs at the AHGP Clinic DO NOT:

  • prescribe or stock Opiates or Benzodiazepines
  • perform medicals for insurance purposes
  • offer routine vaccination programs
  • routine health assessments including screening tests.

Cost

The cost is free for Medicare eligible patients. Please bring necessary identification.
