Respiratory Services

The Respiratory Service at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) provides care and treatment to both public and private patients for the investigation and management of a range of respiratory conditions including asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and lung cancer.

Inpatient care is delivered by our on-site specialist respiratory physicians, nursing staff with advanced respiratory skills and knowledge, and supported by hospital allied health services. This multidisciplinary team provides quality care for patients with respiratory symptoms and disorders, and is skilled in managing issues related to a range of lung problems.

Our respiratory physicians provide clinical consultation, arrange appropriate tests for diagnosis including lung function testing, bronchial challenge testing, exercise oximetry and bronchoscopy. Patients with possible sleep disorders such as sleep apnoea can be linked to external specialised sleep testing services and treatment as needed.

Patients stay in wards where they can access non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for respiratory support if required.

Patients and families can be reassured by the on-site availability of other clinical services which may be required such as Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), cardiology and oncology specialty services.

If required, our specialist respiratory physicians can arrange for referral onwards to cardio-thoracic surgeons who can provide appropriate patients with surgical care to aid diagnosis and for the definitive treatment of lung cancer and some other lung disorders.
