New Emergency Department area opens at Joondalup Health Campus

Oct 12, 2021

Ten new bays in the expanded Emergency Department (ED) area have opened and commenced receiving patients in mid-September, with an additional two bays within isolation rooms due for completion in November 2021.

The new 12-bay unit is part of the $256.7 million Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) Development Project funded by the State and Commonwealth Governments.

User groups comprising members with consumer experience, clinical expertise and emergency patient management worked closely with the design teams, architects Silver Thomas Hanley, Ramsay Health Care and Multiplex Construction Pty Ltd to develop and build the contemporary facility.

Aspects of the new area include negative air flow and other features designed to enhance the safety for staff and patients, in particular when managing patients with infectious diseases including COVID-19.

The newly-expanded ED complements recently completed works, including the relocation and rebuild of administration areas, training and staff rooms.

Construction has now commenced in the Emergency Department area on the planned Behavioural Assessment Urgent Care Clinic (BAUCC), which will be completed in November 2021.

The BAUCC has been designed to safely care for patients who have behavioural disturbances, including those who are affected by drugs and alcohol.
