Foundations being laid for new 112-bed public ward block

Dec 13, 2023

The Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia; the Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, WA Minister for Health and Mental Health; Ms Emily Hamilton MLA, Member for Joondalup and other invited guests gathered to view progress on the construction of Joondalup Health Campus’ new 112-bed public ward block.

Concreting is well underway on the five-storey ward block, part of the $269.4 million expansion of Joondalup Health Campus co-funded by the State and Australian Governments, which will include a 30-bed medical and surgical inpatient ward, a 16-bed Cardiac Care Unit, and 66 beds set aside to meet future demand.

Artist’s impressions of the new facility, which has been designed to meet the needs of the community well into the future, were also unveiled showing contemporary, spacious rooms with large picture windows and a blue and neutral colour scheme.

The new beds will support the expansion of surgical services underway at the hospital, including:

  • a new operating theatre (taking the total to 13 operating theatres);
  • a new Interventional Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (taking the total to two);
  • a new, larger anaesthetic room (taking the total to five);
  • four new Post Anaesthesia Care Unit bed bays (taking the total to 30);
  • five additional pre-surgery holding bays (taking the total to 15); and
  • increased clinical support areas.

The addition of a new theatre and new catheterisation lab on site will enable the hospital to expand its current range of clinical services and cater for more patients to support emergency and elective care.
