Faces of Ramsay – Dani Barnes
Feb 01, 2023
Celebrating a milestone of 25 years at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC), student placement coordinator Dani Barnes reflects on a stellar career in healthcare.
Trained as a mental health nurse, Dani worked at Graylands and the Perth Clinic before travelling for some years. She returned to Perth to have a family and worked at Bentley Hospital before starting at JHC in 1998. She hasn’t looked back since.
Appointed a staff development nurse in 2005, Dani embarked on a new journey as a career educator, researcher and mentor for countless students.
While helping the educational journey of others became a passion, Dani’s personal professional development did not languish.
Dani upskilled with a Post Grad in Mental Health, Cert IV in Training and Assessment and a fully funded Cert IV in Frontline Management.
A Ramsay scholarship assisted Dani in updating her training and assessment qualification to obtain the role of Student Placement Coordinator. She also completed her University of Tasmania scholarship for a Bachelor of Nursing with honours.
Relationship building with education stakeholders is essential to Dani’s day-to-day work, and the hospital has a strong relationship with all Western Australian universities and TAFES.
Dani is both the JHC and National Student Placement Coordinator and an enthusiastic member of the Training and Development team.
She also runs communication and conflict resolution workshops, works in the area of consumer engagement, which is another passion of hers, and promotes education more broadly.
