New $3.5m Ante Natal Clinic opens at Joondalup Health Campus

Jun 27, 2013

A new $3.5m Ante Natal Clinic for expectant mums has opened at Joondalup Health Campus as Perth's northern corridor baby boom continues.

The facility, which is located on the ground floor of Specialist Medical Centre West adjacent to the main hospital and close to visitors' car parks, replaces the clinic off Regents Park Road. The area, which previously housed the radiology clinic, has been completely refurbished to create a spacious waiting room, 12 individual consulting rooms and two interview rooms.

Director of Obstetrics Dr Patty Adams said the new clinic provides the space needed to respond to the growing number of public patients seeking ante natal care during their pregnancy.

"Our specialists and midwives are set to deliver more than 2,500 babies in 2012-13. Ante natal care is a key part of the comprehensive maternity service available at Joondalup Health Campus," said Dr Adams.

"Most women attend the clinic three times during their pregnancy for scans and check-ups. Those with more complex pregnancies attend more frequently. These appointments are vital. They enable us to ensure the pregnancy is progressing as everyone hopes and to address any issues as they arise."

The clinic has been funded from savings from the hospital's $393m redevelopment which will finish later this year – ahead of schedule and under budget. The redevelopment has delivered a major expansion of maternity facilities for public and private patients with additional public birth suites and a new private maternity ward at Joondalup Private Hospital.

The ante natal clinic operates during the day on weekdays. In the evenings and at weekends, it serves as the new After Hours GP Clinic.
