Miracle Babies Foundation thank you to Special Care Nursery staff

Nov 01, 2016

As part of the national ‘Thank U NICU Day’ the Special Care Nursery staff at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) were treated to a special morning tea on behalf of the Miracle Babies Foundation.

For more than a decade the Miracle Babies Foundation has provided resources and funding for equipment and research; supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them.

‘Thank U NICU Day’ was celebrated on Tuesday 8 November and recognises the efforts of staff in Neonatal Intensive Care Units and Special Care Nurseries across the country who look after around 48,000 babies in Australia each year.

Phee Grimston, a volunteer with Miracle Babies Foundation, delivered a special morning tea in appreciation of the fantastic efforts of JHC staff who assist families of babies challenged by prematurity or sickness.

Phee’s son Tristan was born in Brisbane in 2013 with bacterial meningitis requiring special nursery care; and has contracted the disease on further occasions, at times, fighting for his life.

Phee said she discovered Miracle Babies on moving to Perth, and she now volunteers at the Joondalup nurture group where children like Tristan can play in a safe environment and enjoy fun activities as well as giving support to other families she meets through the Special Care Nursery at JHC.

“On behalf of all the families of miracle babies I would like to say ‘Thank U’ to all the special and amazing Special Care Nursery staff here at Joondalup Health Campus who help us through some of the toughest days and weeks of our lives,” she said.
