Joondalup Health Campus nurse wins at WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards

May 12, 2018

A Joondalup Health Campus nurse was named a joint winner at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards on Saturday 12 May 2018.

In just one year, registered nurse Amber Murphy has made a name for herself at the hospital with surgeons referring to her as an “an amazing new talent”.

The 25-year-old nurse took out the ‘Graduate Nurse of the Year’ award and says she couldn’t be happier.

“I am extremely honoured,” Amber said. “I wasn’t expecting to win, so it came as a shock!”

Amber has been working in the role of scrub nurse at the hospital but has moved between different specialities.

Amber conceded the role is a big responsibility but says she loves it.

Amber went into the profession because she wanted to be able to care for others and to make difference.

“I love what I do, it is very rewarding and it’s a really nice feeling being able to genuinely like your job!”

Joondalup Health Campus Director of Clinical Services Ben Irish said Amber is a role-model for other graduates and congratulated her on the win: “She’s a most worthy recipient,” he said. “We’re very proud of her – she is a deserving winner and a great nurse.”
