Faces of Joondalup – Lesley Robb
Aug 06, 2024
This World Breastfeeding Week we highlight our ongoing efforts to protect and promote breastfeeding.
Joondalup Health Campus Lactation Consultant Lesley Robb says it’s an opportunity to draw attention to the significance of breastfeeding, noting that it provides essential nutritional and health benefits while providing comfort and bonding between mothers and their babies, one feed at a time.
Lesley has been employed with Ramsay Health Care for 21 years, beginning as a Registered Nurse and Midwife in 2003 after emigrating from Scotland.
She continues to work as a midwife in addition to lactation consultant, a role she was drawn to after her own experience as a new mum.
“I found breastfeeding challenging and was unable to find health professional support,” said Lesley. “It was only through my own determination that I successfully went on to breastfeed both of my babies but I wished to help other new mothers at what can be a very vulnerable time, by providing both practical and emotional support.”
Lesley qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2007.
“I care very deeply about supporting and empowering mums and their families in a compassionate way to help them through their journey to meet their breast feeding goals, which for some can be challenging at times as they learn to adapt to being a new parents and feeding their new baby,” said Lesley.
“One of the most rewarding parts of my job, which I love, is to see mums and babies connecting and getting to know one another.”
World Breastfeeding Week runs until August 7.
