Empathy and compassion are driving forces for JHC nurse

Jun 13, 2023

Graduate Registered Nurse, Craig Spink, says the support he received working as a Patient Support Assistant at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) while undertaking his nursing qualification made joining the Ramsay Health Care Graduate Pathway Program an easy decision

Craig has extensive work experience in retail, construction and mining, but was inspired by a nurse and doctor who cared for his father 25 years ago to move into health care.

The empathy and compassion they showed myself and my family through a very difficult time inspired me to study and follow my path,” Craig said.

JHC has provided me an opportunity for growth and the potential for expanding personally and professionally is exponential at Ramsay Health Care.

My favourite part is the teamwork and friendships that have been formed while working here,” he said.

Craig says the staff are amazing, and colleagues from varying departments and roles would ask him daily how he was progressing with his studies and always offer him advice and support.

“When I finally graduated, the praise and support I was given was so appreciated, I felt thankful I work with such a wonderful team,” he said.

As a graduate, Craig says he has feels challenged by the steep learning curve, however, fully supported and encouraged by the ward staff and Training and Development team.

“It has allowed me to feel ‘I can do this’ and follow my path.

“I want to be that Registered Nurse that gives empathy and compassion and hopefully helps patients and family through a difficult time,” said Craig, who also has ambitions to further his studies in speciality, critical, or cardiac care.
