Clinical Practice
Dr Chin-Wern Chan is a Specialist Physician in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, practising at Hollywood Private Hospital. His clinical interests include interventional pain medicine procedures and the management of acute and persistent pain in diverse patient populations. This includes paediatric pain, cancer-related pain, post-operative pain, geriatric pain, and pain associated with osteoarthritis. Dr Chan is involved in evidence-based pain management delivered within a multidisciplinary framework. He also participates in clinical research activities and contributes to pain-related studies through the McCusker Alzheimer’s Disease Research Institute, located at the Hollywood Medical Centre. In addition to his private practice at Hollywood Private Hospital, Dr Chan holds a public appointment at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Background & Training
Dr Chan completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia. He undertook specialist training in anaesthesia in Western Australia and completed a fellowship in pain medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He furthered his subspecialty training through a fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia and pain medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Subsequently, Dr Chan completed a clinical fellowship in pain medicine and regional anaesthesia at the University of Toronto, Canada. This fellowship included clinical work at the Wasser Pain Center at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Department of Anaesthesia at Toronto Western Hospital. During this period, his research activities included areas such as low back pain, ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia techniques, and paediatric pain management.
Clinical Focus
Dr Chan’s clinical focus includes interventional pain medicine procedures and the management of pain across a broad range of patient groups, including paediatric, cancer-related, post-operative, and geriatric pain. He also has an interest in the assessment and management of pain associated with osteoarthritis, providing care tailored to individual patient needs within a multidisciplinary framework.
