Joondalup Health Campus COVID-19 update

Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) has confirmed that one member of staff has tested positive after returning from an international holiday.

The hospital followed all correct procedures and as soon as they were made aware of the staff member’s symptoms the individual was sent home to self-isolate.  

 This person was later admitted to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

In line with the Department of Health’s screening guidelines, JHC has worked with the Public Health Unit to complete the necessary contact tracing and identified 19 staff and four patients as contacts.

A contact is defined as a person who spent 15 minutes or more face-to-face with a person who has tested positive for CoVID-19 or two hours in a confined room with the infected person.  

All staff contacts were immediately sent home to self-isolate. Three of the patients have been discharged and are in home isolation, and one patient remains in hospital, is isolated and is being appropriately cared for.

No patients have currently tested positive for CoVID-19 at JHC.

As a result of having a CoVID positive staff member, all private maternity patients have been relocated to enable the appropriate cleaning of the ward.

Like all hospitals in WA, JHC has strict infection control measures in place and is working closely with the Department of Health and Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention and Control experts.  

All private maternity patients who are booked at Joondalup Private Hospital will continue to be admitted as private patients under the care of a private obstetrician.
