Volunteers

The Companions of JHC provide assistance in many areas of the campus though the Volunteer Program. Currently there are 88 members.

The activities include daily visits to all wards with two trolley services. One carries sweets and emergency personal toiletry supplies, current magazines and newspapers.

The other is free book service; suitable reading material is also refreshed daily in the Emergency Department.

There is a variety of tasks, depending on the area being serviced. We have vacancies in some departments and most of the awards. There is also provision for “workshop” activities. There are never enough members to sit and chat or spend time with the patients who need to have a visitor.

All volunteers are required to have a current Police Name Check, a Working with Children Clearance and an informal interview during which help obtaining these clearances is discussed.
