research Planning
As a result of the changes in the Community Clinical School the first steps have been taken towards enhancing Health and Medical Research capabilities at JHC, with a briefing paper submitted in regards to JHC research strategic intent. We look forward to implementing some of the recommendations and to make a visible commitment to Health and Medical Research at JHC by bringing JHC up to a tertiary level healthcare facility.
university education
The Community Clinical School usage continues to expand and is committed to assisting staff, students and collaborative stakeholders with their education and teaching needs. We continue to host the Anaesthetic Fellowship Exams/ ECU Dietetic Exams, postgraduate education, teaching and interview process.
gP education
In 2016-2017, JHC embarked on its most comprehensive GP education program to date with more than 350 registrations recorded at sessions and workshops. In October 2016, the hospital co-hosted a workshop on the GP’s role in pre-operative iron management. The following week, 72 GPs attended the full day ‘Every Woman’ Active Learning Module covering more than 19 topics in obstetrics and gynaecology by some 14 presenters. Regular short workshops got underway in early 2017 aligning with the start of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Triennium Program (2017-2019). Topics included:
GP emergencies, including orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology and pain management
paediatrics, including paediatric emergencies, ADHD, autism and global development delay
mental health, including suicide & self- harm, the Mental Health Act (2014) and ‘when antidepressants don’t work’
thoracic medicine, with a focus on thoracic malignancies - diagnosis and management.
clinical trials unit
Planning has commenced to set up a Clinical Trials Unit at JHC, which will develop the support needed for a plethora of research trials and build upon the established research program at JHC, the cornerstone of which is the ORIGINS project.
